Hot Wine {European Goodness}

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Today I went out to lunch with some co-workers and we ordered hot caramel apple cider from a place called Java Joe's (delish by the way!) Check them out here! .

It got me thinking about when I studied abroad in France and went to the Fall/Christmas markets.

Picture that I took of the Christmas markets in Paris.

 In Paris, they had something called hot wine. Now, for you wine connoisseurs if you haven't already tried it, you must! I have been searching for a place that sells it in Baltimore, but I haven't found it yet (the closest thing I found was a hard hot cider).

I was so excited to find a recipe online that looks super easy! I can't wait to make it as it gets colder.

Mulled Wine

  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 1 (750-ml) bottle red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 3 star anise
  • 4 oranges, peeled, for garnish

  • Combine the cider, wine, honey, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice, cloves and star anise in a large saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Pour into mugs, add an orange peel to each and serve.

Hope you will all venture to try it! I know you will enjoy!
