Thirsty Thursdays {Easy Apple Pie Mimosa}

Thursday, October 30, 2014

I have decided that on Thursdays I'm going to post a drink recipe that I have either found, tried, and enjoyed or my own creation that I whipped up! The drinks will usually center around the holidays or a special event. The recipe today just happens to be one that I whipped up and it's super easy (my kind of recipe)! If you try any of my recipes (whether they be my own or someone else's) please either take pictures, or comment about it on the blog post. Can't wait to see what everyone thinks!

4 cups apple cider
1 bottle chilled champagne OR sparkling wine
3 Red Gala Apples

In a small punch bowl, mix apple cider and sparkling wine/champagne. Slice apple and add to bowl. Let sit in fridge for 1 hour. Stir, then pour into glasses and sprinkle with cinnamon. Enjoy!

Happy Thirsty Thursday!

Sweater Weather

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

My new guilty pleasure is Sheinside! I am obsessed with their clothes.

Not only are they super affordable, but they have free shipping and free returns with no minimum purchase. How much easier can you make the shopping experience? They offer sales every day, presales, deals of the day, and 20% off your first purchase. In fact, if you invite friends and they make purchases, you can get up to 50% off. Their clothes are great quality as well, and their OS clothes (while I was nervous at first) fit great!

I am already in love with this beautiful sweater.

Polka Dots and Classy Bags

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

As I mentioned several times on twitter I hit a major sale the other day at Old Navy

I was so excited that they had my size in just about everything and I was really able to take advantage. I bought a few shirts that were a mere $5, and just about everything in the store was on sale (to up to 60%). One of my favorite outfits was these polka dot Pixie Ankle Pants and my button up Poplin blouse with my Forever 21 white sweater (and Forever 21 heels!). I also found the perfect brown classic bag to go with the look. If you haven't made your way to Old Navy yet, you must go!

Pants: Old Navy, find them here! , Button up: Old Navy, find it here!
Bracelet: Old Navy , Bag: Old Navy Also loved this one!

Let me know what you buy!

DIY Dog Collar Flowers

Monday, October 27, 2014

With all of the fashion Ella and I are debuting, I wanted to mix it up and have her start matching me with what I'm wearing. While I do have a few jackets for her, I decided the best way to do this was to make collar accents in different colors so that she could coordinate daily. I headed to AC Moore to gather my supplies (coupon in hand!) and was able to find many different felt fabrics that suited my taste. I made several adjustments along the way to my flowers, and thought I would share a brief tutorial with you, in case you wanted flowers like Ella's!

Various Felt Squares
Hot Glue Gun
Velcro strips
Paper (for pattern)

Step 1: Make pattern and cut 4 felt flowers

Step 2: Fold first flower and place glue where my finger is with hot glue gun.

Continue doing this in this order while putting glue under where my finger is each time:

Step 3: Once you are finished, you will notice parts of the flower are still sticking up, I suggest putting glue under the inside of the top two flowers

Step 4: Finish by flipping the flower over, and putting glue on the inside of the bottom flower (so that it is glued in half).

Step 5: Take velcro strips (I recommend the reusable ties) and either attach with just velcro (they should easily attach to the back of the flower) or for a harder stay, hot glue velcro to the bottom flower (which should now be glued folded over).

That's it! You have your flower! I even got Ella to model for us.

If you try it let me know how it goes!

Red, Black and White

Sunday, October 26, 2014

Tour d'eiffel shirt: Banana Republic, Black sweater: PacSun
Ella's jacket: Bow Wow Designs check them out here!

Today we went for a quick stroll with Ella, one of my favorite Sunday morning activities (other than sleeping in of course). Yesterday at Barcstoberfest we bought an adorable red jacket from Bow Wow Designs{pictured below} that Ella is going to love as it gets cooler. I paired the red with an Tour D'eiffel shirt and some black jeans and called it a day!

Have a great Sunday!

Deal of the Day!

Saturday, October 25, 2014

I've decided to do a new frequent post called "Deal of the Day" to go over my big deals that I find when I go shopping.

Today I went to one of my favorite consignments called The Shabby Button (see their Facebook here). The Shabby Button has name brands for cheap (I mean real cheap). Today I found an Ann Taylor Loft dress for $18. The dress looks brand new and it's perfect for work! I'm going to pair it with a brown blazer jacket (also from SB) and some brown boots (Aldo). I'll make sure to post the outfit once I have worn!
Remember when shopping vintage/consignment it's always important that the outfit or shoes fit correctly. Just because you are getting a good deal doesn't mean it shouldn't fit. In some cases you can alter but with things like shoes, it's better to pay full price for something that fits than to buy something that doesn't for a bargain.

Stay updated with more steals by checking the blog often!

Happy Shopping!

Barcstoberfest {and more Plaid}

It's really all about the blanket scarf isn't it? Don't let the blanket scarf's fashion fool you, it's also all about the little plaid jacket Ella is sporting.

Plaid scarf: H &M buy it here
Pink plaid jacket: Petvalu similar here

Ella and I visited Barcstoberfest today, a festival to support BARCs {Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter} and the animals that are taken in each year (check out BARCs here).
Held at Patterson Park, the festival boasts many vendors selling everything from cute doggie jackets (yes, we had to have some) to US made treats and antlers (an all time favorite with my dog).
As it is every year, the festival was packed with spectators and their pups, full of great music, and many dog loving people were happily showing off their pups in homemade (and store bought) costumes. For a dog lover, it's great fun. Ella had a great time too, as she received many hugs and kisses from strangers boasting how beautiful she is (and well behaved).

We left happy and with many free treats! We are exhausted from a day of fun, and are ready for our naps.

Happy Saturday!

{Beauty and the Dog}

I've been searching for my blogging niche, there are SO many fashion bloggers and I want to be different. What could I blog about that would include fashion and my love of rescue animals?

I have decided to combine them. Every picture moving forward with an outfit will include my dog Ella (with her own touch of fashion). The blog will continue to exist as "Something Simply Lovely" (what's more lovely than fashion + rescue) but will feature articles related to "Beauty and the Dog".
I think it's going to be just the right collaboration!

Here is our first shot to start. Ella is so great at posing for the camera, she's a natural model!

Sweater: H&M find it here, Hair piece: Kohls similar here

Looking forward to showing you more pics with Ella.

All Things French

Thursday, October 23, 2014

Maybe it's because I studied in France for a semester, or maybe it's because my Minor in school was French...but I have an particular fascination with all things related to France. French language, French food, French fashion (oh the fashion), it just all has a certain je ne sais quoi.

It's no surprise then that one of my favorite shirts has French writing. "A sailor lost at sea, returns to living at home". Sweet little saying.

I paired my shirt with leggings and my favorite Ugg boots.

shirt: Zara (old), boots: Uggs, leggings: Charlotte Russe

It's almost Friday! Have a great night.

Jogger Pants 3 Different Ways

Leopard {Lovin'}

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

I'm obsessed with leopard. I have a leopard sweater, a leopard scarf (pictured below), leopard shoes, and a leopard hair piece. If it was fashionable to wear leopard head to toe, I probably would. But for the sake of fashion {and for you, my readers} I try to keep myself to just a few accent pieces on a weekly basis.

This morning before work I had some fun.

Bracelets: Alex and Ani, Watch: Michael Kohrs
Scarf: Old (bought at a craft show!)

As much as I love my iPhone timer, I'm excited to use my new tripod that I just bought! Should be ready in a few days and I will have more full length photos!

Everyone stay warm and dry today! The weather is so dreary.

Name Change + Domain Name

Hi all! So today I went to buy the domain "" and was shut down. It is already in use by a lady who trains/whispers to dogs. Daggers! So instead I went with my blogspot name,

Something Simply Lovely

Statement Necklace

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

A good necklace is golden. If I'm not wearing a scarf, I'm definitely wearing a bold necklace. Like scarves, it can make your whole outfit.

Today, like yesterday, I went with a plain outfit and a bold necklace. This particular necklace was part of a buy one get one free deal at Forever 21 last weekend, if you hurry you still might be able to get one!

I decided to pair mine with a leather jacket!
Jacket: Express

Bonus, the lady at Dunkin Donuts this morning complimented me!

I'm quite happy with my purchase!

Product Reviews {Hair}

I jumped on the Keratin train a while ago, and I've never gotten off. The more Keratin treatments I get on my hair, the more obsessed I become with them. Because of the treatments, I've experimented with many Keratin products. All shampoo and conditioner brands that I use have to be sulfate and paraben free (the less chemicals the better!).

My current obsessions:
My favorite shampoo right now is the Keratin Express shampoo. You don't have to use alot on your hair for it to work well. My hair dries in minutes!  Buy it here!

How about a conditioner that leaves your hair feeling silky and smooth, and makes your hair even stronger and healthier? My pick is Jellua, it's made with Squid Ink!
The secret is "The Positive Ion of Silicone provides the connecting element needed to bond the chains of amino acids that become the proteins necessary within each hair follicle. This will return damaged hair and scalp back to a state of good health."  Buy it here!

Lastly, an oil treatment. My hair tends to be a bit on the dry side, so I use an everyday oil treatment that leaves my hair feeling soft and silky, and not even a little greasy.
I recommend Kitoko Oil Treatment. Feel free to use up to a quarter size amount because there won't be any greasy tendencies at all! Buy it here!

Have a great Tuesday!

A Good {Scarf} Goes a Long Way

Monday, October 20, 2014

I love scarves, I always have, but this season I just can't seem to get enough! Yesterday I went through all of my winter clothes and was so happy about pulling out my scarves again. Today I put on a plain outfit after work, and threw on a scarf and it just pulled it all together.

See what I mean?

scarf: Francescas, shirt: Banana Republic

Of course the boots helped too...

boots: Aldo
